William wanted to do his first post today about a trick that has helped him with his letter reversals. Did you know that most children struggle with reversals until they are around age 7 1/2? Did you know that left handed children struggle more with reversals that right handed children? These are both interesting facts to me.
Having now taught 5 kids to read and write, I have seen reversals come and go at different stages and ages. Two of my children never struggled with it (lucky them, right?). Two of them struggled through about 2nd grade. William, who is currently in 2nd grade is still struggling with it. I will also add here that William will be 8 next month and is left handed.
William was getting frustrated the other day while taking a practice spelling test. We then came up with using our hands to help us remember which way b/d go and which way p/q go.
Enjoy his video on how he has learned to solve his problem. If your child is struggling, know that they all come along at different stages and ages. Maybe try to use William’s trick and see if it works for them.
Good job Willium!
