When people ask me about life with so many children, they always tend to bring up the subject of laundry. I’m pretty sure that everyone can agree that whether you wash and fold for one or eight, the chore is never ending.
In our house, we have laundry days. It usually starts on Monday with sorting the clothes. I usually have helpers for this, but no one ever wants to touch the underwear. Ha. I have a sorting hamper, similar to the one below. Everyone can help sort. The girls can do it on their own, the boys just need to be told where, but they are getting the hang of it. We also have separate loads for towels and bedding. These are usually just put in piles on the floor.
Monday is usually spent washing, and some folding is done. Then what ever is left is folded on Tuesday and put away. Some large families do laundry daily. We are not such a family. I have to have it scheduled. On the rare occasion that I’m sick or something else is going on, my whole week is thrown off if I don’t get that laundry done by Tuesday.
My kids LOVE to help. They really do. Sometimes it’s because they want screen time, but for the most part, I like to believe that they just enjoy spending time with me. Laundry has been one of those things where I am picky. You have to fold the clothes right so they lay flat. Socks have to be folded a certain way. I’m pretty particular. I would let the kids help me fold, but then I’d go and “fix” it later.
Chuck, the ever problem solving husband, decided for my birthday to buy me a “flip and fold”. Imagine opening something that helps you tackle laundry. Yeah, thanks, Hon, happy birthday to me. I’m not always as grateful as I should be. Plus, I LOVE my birthday, so it’s just suppose to be perfect, right? He then explained that it was to help my helpers to be more efficient. That way I wouldn’t have to redo everything. Ohhhhhh…… It made more sense then. Still a weird gift, Chuck. Do better next time. Honestly, that “weird gift” has actually been a weekly gift since I’ve had it. The kids love to use it, and I’m not redoing their work!
This has been one of those products that I have just loved! If you have littles that want to help, it’s great! I’ll enter the Amazon link below. Just click the picture. Also, enjoy the Youtube video of my helpers in action!
When my kids were home, I washed every day. A big pile of laundry to be done depresses me! I have never been picky about the folding as long as the stuff is put away. You remind me of a story a friend of my mother told. She came from a big family. If the towels were not folded to her standard she would take hold of the bottom one and flip the entire stack into a mess to be redone. Frankly, I was VERY glad I didn’t have her mother!
I saw the ad for the flip-and-fold and wondered who would buy it. Now I know!
I’m not that picky, but I want it to lay flat in the drawer so everything will fit.
Jacquee, I needed to edit my post and couldn’t see how. Is there a way?
I’m not sure. I guess you could always comment on your comment to add what you need.
